Charlotte Sedation Dentist - Dr. Todd Martin - Anxiety-Free Experience

Do dental visits make you feel anxious or worried? You're not alone. Nearly 50% of people feel nervous or uncomfortable about going to the dentist, or undergoing certain kinds of dental procedures. But when you visit us at ART Dentistry in Charlotte, you can relax—because you're in great hands. We offer sedation dentistry techniques that make it easier to get the oral healthcare you need. At ART Dentistry in South Park we offer two kinds of sedation: nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation.

Nitrous Oxide

For people who have mild anxiety about visiting the dentist, nitrous oxide is a good solution. This is a fast-acting safe and effective gas that is inhaled throughout the dental procedure. It doesn't cause drowsiness but it does take away anxiety and pain to make the procedure more comfortable.

After the procedure is over the patient is given oxygen for a view minutes to restore full sensory function. Nitrous oxide is a gentle gas and it wears off very quickly. There are no lasting effects, so if you are sedated with nitrous oxide you are still able to drive yourself home from your appointment afterward.

Oral Conscious Sedation

This kind of sedation is for people with moderate or severe dental anxiety. With oral conscious sedation, we provide pills for you to take before your appointment so when you arrive at our office you'll already be feeling relaxed.
Oral sedation is very safe, and it can help us complete all the dental work you require more quickly as more can be accomplished in one visit. . While you'll be awake during your dental procedure, you'll feel very relaxed. Most patients remember few details of the dental procedures themselves.

You will need to have someone bring you to our Charlotte office on the day of your sedation appointment. This allows you to take the pill before the appointment, and ensures you'll be relaxed by the time we start your procedure. Because you'll still be sedated at the end of your appointment, you'll also need to have someone who can take you home afterward.

The effects of the pill linger for several hours after the appointment, so most people don't experience pain for a few hours after their procedures are completed.
